Challenge
Wolters Kluwer presented a unique and enormous challenge: take a vast and disconnected landscape of over 280 product and service websites and unify them under one website. Users will need to easily find content that is targeted to their industry and discover related products and content. The goal of the digital transformation initiative, also called OneWeb was to create a customer-first experience that brings together dynamic thought leadership content and a product portfolio of 900 solutions in 25 languages across 30 countries, offering web visitors a unified digital experience.
Solution
User Journeys
Our first step was to gain a deep understanding of the diverse user personas and their needs within each sector. We conducted extensive user research, including surveys, interviews, and analytics analysis. This allowed us to create detailed user journey maps for each sector, identifying pain points and opportunities for improvement.
IA and Wireframing
With a clear understanding of user needs, we embarked on restructuring the information architecture of the website. We collaborated closely with content strategists and stakeholders to prioritize content and functionalities. The wireframing phase involved creating low-fidelity prototypes that represented the new layout and content hierarchy for each sector. These wireframes served as a blueprint for the redesigned website.
User Testing
To ensure an efficient and user-friendly navigation system, we conducted a tree testing study with real users. Participants were asked to complete tasks such as finding specific content or services. Their interactions with the tree maps helped us refine the website’s navigation, ensuring that it aligned with user mental models and expectations.
Outcome
The OneWeb project successfully transformed the Wolters Kluwer website into a unified and user-centric platform that met the specific needs of professionals across different sectors. By leveraging user journey maps, wireframes, and navigation user research, we not only improved the website’s usability but also enhanced overall user satisfaction. Customers can now seamlessly navigate between interest areas, thought leadership and related products.
