Challenge
Boston Review had a small but dedicated print readership that they were looking to expand. While the print magazine was well designed, the site lagged behind with a dated visual design, poor mobile functionality and social integration. Time on page was also lower than it should be relative to the depth of content.
Solution
The clean, bold design differentiates Boston Review from its competitors, creates a better connection to the target audience and makes its content more accessible. We also executed on Boston Review’s vision for its new revenue model by visually connecting separate content and commerce platforms. Pulling in the power of the separate commerce platform allowed us to create membership tiers, promote donations and sell branded merchandise in a seamless environment. The new website also increased reader participation by replacing the underused comment system with centralized commenting on Facebook.
